Derek & the Dirt – De Zappa – 30 December 2024

From the moment I stepped into De Zappa, I knew this was going to be a special evening. The atmosphere was relaxed, the beers were flowing, and the anticipation in the air was undeniable. Everyone was here for one reason: Derek & The Dirt were about to tear the place down.
As the first chords of Run rang out, I was immediately drawn in. Derek, with his signature raw voice and charisma, set the crowd on edge with a few dry yet perfectly timed remarks. Pim De Wolf delivered guitar solos that sent shivers down your spine, while Philippe De Vuyst and Peter De Bosschere held down the rhythm section so tightly that there was no resisting the groove.
But the absolute highlight for me? Deep Purple Is In My Heart. You could feel the weight of this song, a tribute that hit hard for everyone who knew the story. A lump in the throat, a moment of pure emotion, followed by the band kicking back into high gear with their trademark energy.
At one point, the crowd completely surrendered to the music, I looked around and realized: this is why live music matters. This wasn’t just a concert; this was an experience, a pure moment of connection between band and audience.
As the final notes faded, I lingered for a while, enjoying a beer and soaking in the afterglow. The adrenaline was still coursing through me. What a night. Derek & The Dirt had once again proven why they remain one of the best live bands out there.
