Indeed, that’s another “far too” beautiful summer gone! Who dares to openly admit that they’re already craving more? What we certainly can’t get enough of are the songs that have been stuck in our heads throughout the month!
“Little Wide Open” (#1), and the album of the same name by Kevin Morby, have been available for a while now and have already been labelled by me as a potential album of the year. Barely three months ago, “100,000” also appeared on the horizon, and for six months now, we’ve been picking another gem from that album for the list each time!
“Little Jane” by old-timer Bob Seger takes second place! It’s been quite a while since Bob last unleashed his album demons! 2017, to be precise, when his 17th album, “I Knew You When”, was released. In all honesty, I had completely forgotten about that release! We were hoping for a brand-new album sometime soon. No such luck: on September 18, we’ll have to settle for an expanded edition of “Face The Promise”, his penultimate album from 2006, featuring four new tracks! “Little Jane” is one of those four new songs!
There are more promising prospects for Echo & The Bunnymen! “The Light That Surrounds You” is the second single being pushed to build anticipation for the album “Apples For Isaac”. That new record is also due to be released on September 18. Judging by the two advance singles, Ian McCulloch and his fellow band members seem to be on a roll, delivering some seriously catchy tunes.
As tradition dictates, I’ll also mention the acts that just missed out on making this month’s list: in no particular order, they are Death Cab For Cutie, Fenne Lily, Future Islands, Richard Thompson, Tom Waits, Kasabian, Paul Heaton, Weezer and The Wolfgang Press!
