Frank Vander Linden – GC De Kluize – 5 december 2023

On Wednesday evening, December 6th, 2023, GC De Kluize was transformed into an intimate listening space for a special performance by Frank Vander Linden. As part of his Zanger/Gitarist tour, he presented an acoustic set that took the audience on an emotional journey through his musical repertoire.
The evening began with a surprising entrance: Vander Linden walked in from the back of the hall to the stage, immediately creating a sense of closeness. He opened with Irene, one of the most well-known songs by his band De Mens, setting the tone for a night full of introspection and musical craftsmanship.
Throughout the concert, he alternated songs from his solo albums, such as In de Walszaal and Nachtwerk, with other pieces. Starting from the song Genees mij, he was joined by pianist David Poltrock, whose playing deepened the melancholic atmosphere of the evening. Together, they performed songs like Weeskind and Ik dacht aan een vrouw, where the blend of guitar and piano added a powerful emotional charge.
Between songs, Vander Linden shared personal stories and anecdotes, often with a touch of humor. At one point, he asked the audience if the mood wasn’t getting too somber, only to continue with a smile. This interaction brought a balance between seriousness and levity, making the evening both moving and entertaining.
The audience, clearly touched by Vander Linden’s honesty and craftsmanship, rewarded him with a standing ovation. As a thank-you, he returned for a few encore songs, including Liefde komt vanzelf, ending the evening on a hopeful note.
This concert once again proved that Frank Vander Linden—both solo and with his band—is a master storyteller who knows how to touch his audience with sincere lyrics and compelling music.
A night not soon forgotten.
