Van Morrison is back with a new album, Remembering Now, set to release on June 13. In an exclusive interview with Dylan Jones, the legendary singer-songwriter discussed the creative process behind the record, giving us insight into his unique way of working. His approach? Pure spontaneity.

Music Without a Message
Morrison emphasized that he doesn’t work from a predetermined theme or statement. Instead, he lets the music emerge organically. The album features fourteen tracks, including Down to Joy, which was previously featured in Kenneth Branagh’s film Belfast (2021). His personal favorite? Stretching Out, a song that reminds him of Veedon Fleece, one of his most celebrated albums.
An Intuitive Process
Writing and recording the songs happened alongside other projects. Morrison describes himself as a kind of “receiver” of musical ideas, never consciously trying to convey a message—just aiming to enjoy the music. According to him, this intuitive process is the key to his creativity and timelessness.
Timeless Sounds
Although Van Morrison has been active for decades, his music remains fresh and relevant. His raw, soulful voice and distinctive style ensure that each album has a new dimension. Remembering Now seems to be no exception. Fans can look forward to a record that maintains his signature sound while exploring new musical landscapes.
